Hi,

The top of the gage screws off. Try not to damage the ring. You can purchase all the inside components for replacement. After you have had the ring plated you can reassemble all the items and have a working and readable fuel gage.

Plated ring? all the ones that I've seen are black

I have seen several on cars both ways. Logic would say that they were painted.

I agree, Chevs were cheap cars and plating could not be justified
