Thanks for the answer on the other distributor topic. i have seen some distributors on ebay but they are very old, has anyone tried modifying another later one so as to get the auto advance?

Also what spark plugs fit a 1928 4cylinder? i am told the autolite 3076 may fit but this brand is not the easiest to get in the uk, does anyone else have the champion or ac code?

Not much activity in the replacement of the 28 distributor as it is fairly bullet proof.

The AC Spark Plug number is AC78S. Other numbers are AC "B" and AC "Z".

Also can use Autolite 3077 plugs in the later 4 bangers. If you google them you will find several suppliers. Rock Auto www.rockauto.com is one that has been a good supplier.

Or you can make an adapter 7/8" to a 14mm modern spark plug
Brillman have them for $ 7.50

I use this adaper in my 1919 Harley Davidson with spark plugs from a Toyota. Runs very good with clean plugs.

From my 2000 Champion sparkplug catalogue, the plug listed for the 4 cyl Chevs is a W16Y.Whilst Champion recommend it,driving experience tells a totally different story. It's too cold a heat range plug(unless you had a real hotted up engine),and has far to short a reach, far shorter than the AC Type B,AC 78/78S.Performance will be poor, lack of power etc.
The Champion direct equivalent of the AC 78S is a W20 plug. While it has a higher heat range, the reach is still a bit too short.Other choices to think about may be the Auto-Lite 3076(Champion W14),Auto-lite 3077(Champion W89D,this plug has a very good reach),Motorcraft TT 15(Champion W89D).You may also want to try Champion W18 plugs,or if you can source them,AC 18 plugs.
