I just recently got my 1934 Master running again ..... after it sat neglected for many years.... I found a NOS speedometer cable and installed it into the original speedometer/transmission... (the old cable was missing) My problem is the pointer on the gauge.... points straight down (about 6 o'clock, on a clock).... when I drive it moves up, clockwise... and increases as my speed increases... but of course it is reading WRONG, because the needle did not start off at zero.... (see photo) I have a spare speedometer that I bought... but its' needle points down below zero as well.... I would think that there would be a little peg or some kind of stop that kept the needle at zero... before the vehicle started to move... but neither speedometer has a little peg to start the needle at zero MPH......
My Question.... How do I set the needle at zero...?? ... and once set, will it always return to zero when not moving...?? Help..!!!

The speedo with the red needle is a 1936,
Use the '34 speedo and remove the needle and push it back on where it belongs.
It does not take much to pull off the needle.

OK Gene... but the spare, with the white needle, moves freely with my finger, all over the face, in any direction... what will keep it at zero....?

Maybe use a drop of super glue.

When all is well the intermal parts will hold the needle at zero. Is the needle loose on the shaft?

No, Gene... the Red needle, presently in the car hooked up to the cable does move up the dial as I increase my speed... so it must be solid on its' shaft ... or it would not rotate with the speed increase... the spare white one... when moved with my finger rotates the shaft as well... so it must not be loose on the shaft either.... From what I am getting from this conversation... the needle should naturally start and go back to zero... on its' own... if the internal parts of the speedometer are all working properly....

All I can say it is not solld on the shaft and can be removed and pressed back on to line up with the zero mark....if the internals are good.

OK Gene, I took your advice and with the white needle spare... pulled the needle off and stuck it back on at the zero mark... I will do the same with the one that is mounted in the dash... after I pull it out .... Thank you for your help with this... Sunny
