Hi there,
I am fitting up the oil pressure gauge to my 34 chev std.
The original probably had copper line from the lower engine block to the gauge?

The only fitting that I could buy were brass for the attachments and very thin plastic pipe for the transfer of oil to the gauge.

Does anyone have a pic of the location of the pipe and its route to the gauge?

To protect the fragile plastic pipe I had an " IDEA ", to thread it through some small gauge copper pipe, and bend and fix it along the way to the various parts of the superstructure as needed.

This is necessary, because the plastic pipe is very "coiled" and will not stretch to a straight line or anything else?

Will the plastic pipe hold "hot" oil? I personally would not trust it and instead use copper tubing. We can still get the copper tubing in the USA but have to order it from hardware companies as it is not commonly stocked. Maybe you can also do that in OZ.

Plastic pipe supplied with oil pressure gauges will with stand heat. To uncoil this pipe use a heat gun carefully, when going through a hole in metal use a rubber gromet and side fold clips will hold it on flat surfaces. I have used it on meany projects.

Hi there all,
thank you for your reply's.
I used the same oil gauge kit on my International A414 tractor last year and it is special tubing to withstand heat. It has worked well on the tractor.
I'm still unsure of it path to the oil pressure gauge, could anyone have a look and give some idea of where it can safely be run and fixed?

I don't have a '34 so can't take photos of the exact routing. The tubing runs from the distributor to a bracket on the ledge above the oil pan then makes a gradual 90 deg. bend up the fire wall to another 90 deg. bend and through the rubber insert in the slot in the firewall. Finally direct to the back of the oil gauge.

If you have 1 of the after market type guage kits the nylon tubing supplied hasnt given any trouble with the 5 or 6 that I have fitted (I generally use VDO).

I havent looked for steel or copper tubing of that size (1/8") so I am not very helpful at this stage.

Hi there Tony and Chipper,
thank your for your reply s.

Chipper:I now have a general idea of how and where to run the pipe idea

Tony: I am going into the local brake place to see what they have in the way of copper pipe..

Cheers

I doubt they will have anything that small as 3/16" is the general brake pipe size since about 1960. Considering the price of copper these days and the limited use of the smaller would not be a stock line for most business but is worth asking just the same.

Hi there Tony,
yesterday I found an oil pressure gauge kit in copper from a local auto accessory shop for $20-, so I bought it.

Now all I have to find are very small clips to secure the tiny pipe....

You have done well, the clips arent hard (fiddly) to make yourself

I found the fittings and the copper tubing at my local Napa store. The part number for the fittings is WH6100x2. It is a Weather Head fitting.
I would think that it would be available in Australia

Then I ran across this on ebay:

Hi there,
thanks for the feedback.

That looks just like the kit that I bought locally for $20-
its good value, even if you put it on the shelf for a while..
