My 1939 2dr. sedan door handles work differently from side to side. The right (passenger) side handle pushes down to open. The left side pulls up to open. Is this normal for the 1939?
Thanks, Tom

Does the left (driver’s) door handle have a lock and key?

The 1939 did not come with a locking left door handle but the feature was offered as an acessory.

for my '39 I installed a right locking door handle on the left side and the key had to be inserted up-side down to unlock the door. The handle still turned down to open th door.

I wonder where my 1939 ended up. I sold it to Bill Kohley a number of years ago and he sold it several years back due to his illness.

Master Deluxe 2 door with skirts, wheel covers and the heater fresh air scoop on the right cowl side and dark green in color. The onlt '39 in the country to have those three accessories plus many more.

Thanks for the help, my car does have a lock on rt. side but not left. I believe someone used the wrong mechanism that requires the handle to only operate up. I will be looking for the entire door mechanism for the 39.
