The former owner of my car painted all the door handles, escutcheons, and window cranks. Can anyone recommend a plating shop to rechrome them, or is it more economical to buy reproductions?

I've used Electro-Plating of El Paso for years. They do a great job and are very reasonable.

The interior hardware was nickel not chrome.

Did you try to remove the paint to see what condition the handles are underneath the paint?

Electro-Plating does Nickel also.

Yep, most plating shops do nickel plating as well and when doing chrome a quality shop will do triple plating.....copper, nickel and then chrome.

There is a chrome shop north of the border in Quebec not far from me here. I can get their address and phone number if you're interested. Wasn't sure if you wanted to get involved with customs or not. They are very good and highly recommended. In fact they do chrome for S&S motorcycle engines.

Most plating shops are going to get at least $75 a handle. Repros from the FS are a lot less than plating the originals.

The advantage of repros is they won't break. The problem is the finish is incorrect. the Interior handles and escutchoens should be nickel finished and not shiny nickel but dull which is called a "butler" finish. Chrome is incorrect for a true restoration and the repros are stainless which should also be nickel plated to be true to original. Of course this all depends on what the owner really wants for their car.

That they don't break is important. The handles for my 32 were replated in Canada (Quebec) but the integrity of the splines was damaged most likely when the old plating was stripped. They look great but are totally useless except for decoration as all the splines stripped on the first use. If replating be sure the shop doing the work knows how to do the job properly.

Here is the chrome plating shop in Ormstown Quebec that I referred to in an earlier post. I personally can't refer them but I have been led to believe that they are exceptional in their workmanship. Good Luck

Librandi's in Middletown, PA

Chrome and Nickel among others

They do Chrome and Nickel plating for a lot of AACA winners and are located approximately 10 miles from Hershey PA.

They have Chrome and Nickel plated numerous parts for me.

Same thing happened when my handles were replayed. Now I buy the repos and have them stripped of chrome at the plater. Nickel is underneath!
