This may sound like a dumb question but I have to ask. I installed a universal sending unit in the tank of my '34 Master. The instructions suggested that to ensure proper operation an additional wire be run from the unit to the body of the car. Why the body? Wouldn't the frame be just as good?
Why not?...everything else is frame grouded
If you have a good ground from the sending unit to the tank and then from the tank to the frame thru the straps you wouldn't need an additional ground. I checked mine with an ohm meter, since everything was freshly painted. It was good at the time and I have never had a problem, but I guess an additional ground to the frame wouldn't hurt.

Well, let's look at it this way. The dash gauge is connected to the dash/body so the direct path would be from the tank to the body and not the long way around by way of the frame?????
IF you have good connections between the sender and tank and then to the frame/body I see no need for the extra wire but it wont hurt to put it to either place.

The tank is coated and the straps are painted so I think I should put one in.
