Does anyone have a recommendation for someone who can rebuild a door handle lock with fitment for a new key?

Are you needing a lock cylinder or the entire handle assembly?
Any locksmith who has the doors open SHOULD be able to make keys for you.

Jarvis Erickson, advertises in the G&D is fast, efficient, friendly and reasonably priced.

I have never used Jarvis but understand he does good work at a reasonable price. If you have the handle out look for a four digit number (1500-1700) stamped on the shank. Most locksmiths can cut a key from that "key code". I have code books covering many years and do my own locksmithing.

I have the whole door handle assembly, however I am missing the key. If a local locksmith can change the tumblers and fit for a new key, then that course of action I will take.

Fitting a key to the lock should not be a problem for a "real" locksmith.

I think finding a "real" lock smith is the challenge. I just took the cylinder out the handle of my 1930, code was intact and readable. He has now had the cylinder now for a week and is still having difficulty with cutting me a key for it. I have my fingers crossed he will be able to get this done for me. Good luck

Man, ain't that the truth! There are only three "real" locksmiths in the USA that knew what they were doing. Two died and the third one is now an alcoholic!

Douglas Vogel in Michigan recently cut extra keys for me for the ignition/door lock, locking hub cap and the trunk locks for a 1934. He cut them using the 4-digit codes I took from the door handle and the other locks.

I have a question regarding the door handle locks on a 29-30 chevy i hope someone can solve for me. I recently got a hold of two door handles which I believe are for a 29-30 chevrolet, Both are in need of keys so I pulled out the cylinders and took the one to a locksmith who was unable to cut me a key. The code on it was M325. It also appears that the key need for this lock cylinder is a double sided key. When I took the second handle I have apart, the code on the cylinder was C1646. This code would match an electrolock or ignition style key. Did they made two different style keys for these door handles or did someone do so mixing and matching in the past?

Briggs & Stratton locks with a code between M 201 - 400 fit Peerless 1930 and Gardner 1930 vehicles according to my lock code books. Chevrolet electrolocks will have a key code from C 1501 to C 1700. Door, trunk or rumble seat locks will have the same codes but are not necessarily matching to the electrolock code on a vehicle.

FYI M 325 has a key code of 51333. C 1646 code = 13231. A good locksmith will know what that means and be able to cut a key for that lock.

Do they exist? Haven't found one locally in over a decade. All of the locksmiths around my area can't even cut a key from a code let alone have ever heard of an electrolock. Their best tool for removing a lock cylinder is a power drill. Ouch!!

We have some in Texas. I have educated a couple. Guess the Left coasters don't want to learn or think manual work is beneath them. Guess that rolling stone is covered with moss!

Yep, a drill is probably the #1 locksmith tool these days. If someone has to touch pins it usually gets messy.

I know a guy that sold his locksmith business EXCEPT for his old car keying. He kept that portion of his business since it still required real skill and there is little competition. I have a box of stuff for him to rekey and seeing this topic makes me realize I should hustle and get it done as he has some health struggles. He is in Western Canada.

We in central Wisconsin are lucky to have such a REAL locksmith.
Two actually as he has an apprentice (nephew?) learning the business so we should be good for most of another generation.
I think the only thing the owner can't do is program all current auto keys though he can cut keys to fit any ignition switch........they'll get you into the vehicle but won't start the engine or anything else.
I don't know how many blanks he had for the Electrolock on my '32 but he had a bunch.

Interesting development today on my 1930 locking door handle. The lock cylinder and shaft in my handle has a key code on it of C1646. I was playing with other electrolock keys that I have and found that a key code of C1517 works perfectly in the C1646 coded lock cylinder. Not sure if this is a fluke or not, but I am now happy that I have a locking door handle that actually works.
