Me again,

My speedometer inner cable has sheered off at the transmission.

Is there something likely causing this condition? I am hesitant to replace it for $45 and have it break again. Filling Station is out of their $35 ones.

Thanks,
Jim

Your inner cable would have run dry and seized or your speedometer itself has seized thus causing the cable to break. I would suggest removing the speedometer and testing it to see if it still turns freely.

Yep, the speedometer seems to be frozen up.

Yep, a frozen speedometer was definitely the symptom of your issue.

You must obtain a new/used speedometer that works before you replace the cable. Otherwise you will be replacing cable #2.

Rebuilt cable is on its way. My odometer was locked (2 spindles) so I'm going to use a working used one I got from eBay a while back.

How does one lubricate the speedometer/odometer and the cable?

Do a search. We have had numerous discussions recently on lubricating the speedometer and the cable.
