I have had no success so far in identifying the exact date or even country of manufacture of the engine in my 1930 Chevy that I am rebuilding. There is plenty of info on casting numbers (it has 835501), but I can find nothing on stamped engine number 1465460, which is stamped behind the fuel pump. Any help appreciated.

This number stamped BEHIND the fuel pump is your serial number... should look like this 1930 serial number

one of the guys here can give you more info on the engine based on this number...

Also if you look around on the engine under the casting number 835501 should have a date code like C 11 0, which would be month c=3rd month = March, then Date number 11 = 11th day of month, then single year code 0 = 1930.

Then the bowtie and a number, most believe the number to be the foundry identifier. have not seen any info to confirm this... YET

1421340 was the serial number of the first 1930 engine built in January, 1930 in Flint. Except for 1421801 to 1426600 and 1429001 to 1429307 inclusive, the remaining numbers up to 1504471 (first February engine) were produced during January. That would put 1465460 about mid-January in Flint, Michigan. Without the "R" prefix it was originally installed in a left hand drive Chevy.

I would expect that the casting date to be about "A 10 0" to "A 15 0". You can find that just below the casting number 835501.

Many thnaks lads, spot on with advice much apreciated. First of all yes the chassis the engine is in is left hand drive, and the casting letters are A-14-0 which is bang on what Chipper predicted by the engine number, 14th January 1930. Thanks again.
