Are the two top bows for a 31 roadster one solid piece that has been bent or are they composite pieces that are glued together? If they are a solid piece where is the best place to get replacements? If they are composite pieces are there patterns for the two bows. What kind of wood is used to make them?
They are steam-bent oak bows -- all one piece. One source for them is:

I have bought two sets from him and they were perfect each time. Hope that helps.

Chip,
With all respect for your cars and suppliers, I will never, ever purchase another bow from Oak Bows. I ordered one for my '19 FB from them. Not only was it priced like the frame for the Mona Lisa but I had to alter it to fit properly. When I called they said that is the way they sell them.
There are plenty of other sources of steam bent oak bows that are much better and economical. Witmer Coach Shop, 1070 Main St, New Holland, PA 17557 (717) 656-3411 is my recommendation. You will need to give them the rough dimensions. If you don't have them and you are a VCCA member contact the Technical Adviser for 1931.
That's good info, Chipper. I can only say that Oak Bows did fine by me and the price was comparable. But I'll do some careful checking next time based on your experience.
All the Best,
Chip
Thanks for the information. Sounds like I will have to shop around a little and ask lots of questions.
Oak bows of Chambersburg did an excellent job making a set for my 31 Phaeton about 3 or 4 years ago. I brought the originals in, he bent new ones and I did the finish shaping myself to save money. VCCA # 18184
