For paint code number 95: "Bangor Beige" crosses over to a 1973 Dodge truck. The manufacture's code number is DT 6397. The color is Bahama Yellow. The Duco number is 7863.

"Haverhill Brown" crosses over to a 1972 Continental (interior color). The color is called Light Copper, and the Acme number is 11256

"Cream Medium" crosses over to a 1974 Toyota. The code number is T-528 and the color is Yellow. The Acme number is 91781, the RM number is 9155 (that is incorrect.....the RM number should be 4602), the Dupont number is 43334 and the Ditzler (PPG) number is 82172 laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh

Gator,

I show:

Bangor Beige crossing over to a '75- 77 Ford Truck "Tan" ACME 11560, R-M 2739, DuPont 43066, and Ditzler 2619. Wayne Martin rated this as an Excellent match.

Haverhill Brown to '73- 77 Fiat "Sepia Brown" ACME 91871, R-M 4683, DuPont 43066, and Ditzler 24073. Wayne rated this as a good match, but being an interior color it probably was a flat color thus the good rate.

Cream Medium I show the same ACME, DuPont and Ditzler numbers as the Dog , except I have the R-M number as 4602. Dad rated this one excellent as well.

I don't know if there is a typo some where or not. I looked at other pages on my match sheets and found the same R-M number there. I hope this helps.

JYD, I show only three Color combos for the '30 coach #s 30, 53, and 54. None of which have an Orange, with a Blue, unless Chicle Drab is a Blue. I guess I'll have to breakdown and bring the chip book home to reaserch this winter.

K1dan: Right on! I have two different cross over sheets from your dad on those colors. I posted the first listing for all of the colors, and you posted the second listing. Looks like we have it covered! Ya!

On the RM number of 9155, that is on one of the sheets, but there is a correction note changing it to RM 4602. I missed that note. Also, I made a correction in my previous posting as well. Thanks for the update! laugh laugh laugh laugh

Can't thank you enough. ok

I don't want to sound too stupid, but to be correct for '32 (cabriolet), what colors go where? Since my '32 has a build date of Dec. '31 (before all fenders were painted black starting in May '32, I think) I need to know which colors were where. Some areas are easy to figure out others aren't, like firewall, wheels, engine parts, dash, other areas? What about that little arm rest area under the windows on the outside of the car? And the area between the rumble seat and the top? Was the placements different for other models?

I did buy the car from the orginal owner's family, but it had been re-painted at some point in time (dealer in '32 or even later maybe, don't know) with the yellow body and black fenders colors, so I can't go by what is where on the car now. :(

On my 30 I was told the paint #s would be on the door piller . This wood has been replaced and there is no code there. I think the car was Black with a cream (yellow) wheels. But I am not sure.
I have a picture titled "THE ARRIVAL OF THE CAST WONDER" the top center is my car. And I like that color combination. ( blue with black)
Only I like the wheels on the the car to its right Orange. This an amature restore to be a Fun DRIVER so close is good enough. Thanks

Does the '30 have a cowl tag in the engine compartment? The paint code for the '32 is on that tag. laugh

P.S. What about the placement and paint code for the pin strips?

Dan, I looked up 'chicle' in my Webster's and it only says 'a gum from the latex.....' no color named. Funny thing the next word is 'chicory' which does have a blue flower. Weird

After I look at all of these brand's color chips and make a choice (I mean my wife makes a choice for me) are all of them accepted by the VCCA when the car is shown?

I don't know if there is a big difference between for example, Acme's 11256 light copper and Acme's 91871 Sepia Brown or the Fiat colors.

Don't want to have a problem AFTER the painting is done. :(
Posted By: Chipper Re: New paint codes? - 11/07/02 05:02 PM
The paint code on 1930s was stamped into the main sill wood just in front of the drivers seat. 1931 began the firewall plate with body, paint and trim numbers. That is except for the phaeton, roadster and trucks which did not have any paint codes.

The best way to determine the original paint is to check an area that may not have been repainted (inside door jams, under sunvisors, under screws, bolts, firewall, bottom lip of body, etc.). A check of the list of paint combinations may also have designation of body style for certain combinations. If you are a VCCA member, check with the Technical Advisor for additional help.

The paint diagrams are available for 1931 and 1932 passenger cars. Check with the TA for specific paint information.

MrMack,
I'm not sure you really want me to paint your car. I learned a long time ago,......"You can make me do it, but you can't make me do it right!".....or was that you can't make me like it?

Either way I'm not a painter, I'm not realy much when it comes to answering questions about paint other than what I get from Dad's work, but I may try to change that.

Dan.

Hey Macky Wacky! I will paint your car for you. I have 10 cases of Krylon spray cans in various colors. Which color do you want??  laugh laugh laugh laugh
Posted By: Junkyard Dog Re: New paint codes? - 11/07/02 09:26 PM
pAUlmartin: There was a Classic Blue used on the coach models in 1930. The lower body and disc wheels were Classic Blue and the upper body was black. The pin striping was Tusk Ivory and the interior window garnish mouldings were Drab Gray. Does that sound like your color combination? laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh
Posted By: pAUlmartin Re: New paint codes? - 11/12/02 02:20 PM
Yes JYD,as usual you got it. That sounds like what I am looking for. The only change is the wheels. Mine are wire and I would like to try the Orange color I see on a 31 AE five passenger coupe and a 29 AC sport coupe.
It is some what interesting that I have been looking at this picture and I had not noticed that the upper is painted black I was thinking it was blue. and only the fenders were black.
Posted By: Junkyard Dog Re: New paint codes? - 11/12/02 02:54 PM
As you discovered, the upper body area (roof) was also black. And, in 1930 a "Shalimar Orange" was used on wire wheels. That is a great looking color, especially if you use wide whitewall tires. laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh

The modern cross over paints for the color combination of Classic Blue is as follows:

Classic Blue: 1969 Jaguar, the color is Indigo Blue, the Acme number is 1868, the RM number is JA018 and it is rated as a good match.

I don't have a modern cross over for Tusk Ivory. Maybe K1dan can help on this one.

Shalimar Orange: The Ditzler number is DDL-60381 or DAR-60381. It is rated as an excellent match.
Posted By: pAUlmartin Re: New paint codes? - 11/12/02 04:23 PM
Thanks , stupid ? but is the black just any black?
Posted By: Junkyard Dog Re: New paint codes? - 11/12/02 04:41 PM
Black is black as long as you stick with one brand of paint. laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh
Posted By: K1dan Re: New paint codes? - 11/12/02 06:06 PM
Ok here we go!
Shalimar Orange crosses to 70- 71 Fiat Orange mfg code 294 ACME 90799, R-M FT245, duPont 32005.

Classic Blue is what JYD gave us.

Tusk Ivory to 71 Austin- MG BLVC 4 or 5, Bedouin duPont 30009.

Now an update on Chicle Drab...74 Chevrolet mfg code 4304 Dark Taupe interior semi gloss, ACME 91275, R-M 173B12, duPont 9998LH. Now this is a semi gloss, Dad rated it Excellent.

Does paulmartin and I have to watch out for 'black' being too black? I mean the modern shiny, glossy, deep black. Doesn't our black need to be more 'flat'?

What would you guys recommend for him and ME?
Posted By: Junkyard Dog Re: New paint codes? - 11/12/02 06:47 PM
Shiny (glossy) black is what you want. You can use either nitrocellulose lacquer, acrylic lacquer, base coat - clear coat, or whatever type of finish that you prefer. But on the black stick with one type of brand because PPG's black may be more "black" than say RM's black when you put the two side by side.

Thanks for the update K1dan! laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh

Thanks to K1dan and Jyd.
Gator I'll bet you would like that Orange And Blue combo with a shade lighter blue.
For those that don't get this one The university
of Fla. Gators and the AUBURN UNIVERSTY both have Orange and Blue School colors.
