One major difference between the 4 cylinder engines vs. the 6 cylinder is that in the 4s, the oil pump does NOT deliver oil to the rocker arms.
Therefore, before attempting to start it up, I suggest squirting some engine oil on the rocker arms and also squirt some Marvel Mystery Oil or automatic transmission fluid into the spark plug holes to lubricate the cylinders and piston rings.
Both engines use a splash system of oiling the inside of the engine, so oil will not start getting splashed until the oil pump fills up the oil troughs under the connecting rods and the engine is running fast enough to 'splash' the oil all over the bottom end.
