Some other observations-Has a 1937-40 cylinder head -note head bolt locations on left side of engine,AA engine number is a 1941...the Rochester carb.,spark plug boots (that would not even fit on the original 10 MM plugs) antenna, wheel trim rings and O.S. mirror,no outter stripe on spare wheel, trunk spare tire board missing,????
All the pictures have not down loaded as yet -will find more.

But then it is a "one of a kind" bigl bigl

Isn't the trim under the tail lights for Fleetline only?

It doesn't have correct knobs for the choke, etc. It has a '48 ignition switch, '48 wide stainless belt moulding and a '48 type coil. Possibly it's a '47 or '48 Stylemaster pieced together with random parts from several years...

1947 Fleetmaster serial nombers ran from EK 1001 thru EK 72404.
The serial number listed-CEK-B5200 would make it an early 1947...And what about that C...?
An early 1947 club coupe would have had a big shelf over the spare tire.A late 1947 would have just a ruond cover over the spare tire.
The 1947 engine numbers ran from EK-10001 thru 72404.
The 1941 engine numbers ran from AA or AN 1001 thru 1163729.
The 1947 FM side window mouldings looped each window. The 1948 looped both side windows as this car has.1947 had the narrow body crease moulding-1948 wide.
The pictures take for ever to down load on my computer...I have not seen most of them.
I feel sorry for who ever buys this car - but for $70,000 no one will. Also make a note of the name of the appraiser.I would never trust his judgement.

(Or should that be $7000 ???)

Wow, Great looking car, if you are not looking for accuracy. Would probably do great at local shows. While I am not an expert on 47-48's. These are my observations for several years of study.

I found:

[list]
Engine Paint detail - intake manifold -s/b black, exhaust - s/b natural or silver
Cig lighter incorrect
Choke knob or Throttle are incorrect
Dash Board Ash Received should be wood grained
Wood Graining not correct.
Placement of wood grain on a Fleetmaster should all be grained above the Dashboard Center Chrome

Wiper Blades appear too long
Pedal pads ( are repro or replacment ) original the groove continues over the sides.
Spot light is not GM Accessory
Mirrors we offered in rectangle and round these could be correct (????)
Entire underside is black ( undercoat not abailable till 54 as a Chevrolet option )
Fuel tank s/b natural steel I think it is plated to prevent rust
15" not available till 48 as an accessory on Stylemaster and Fleetmaster. (Standard on Fleetline ( I think )
Hood springs natural not painted
firewall id Aluminum Natural not painted
Wheel trim rings do not appear correct
Should be an additional stripe just inside of the wheel trim ring
Antenna - aftermarket
no insignia on Trunk lid. There was a 47 insignia that carried over to early 48's.

I think you were correct with the Barrett Jackson effect. What prices they were getting.

I find it odd, that with all the detailed photos. There is not one of the data plaque close-up. I noticed the wide belt moulding, and the 48 window moulding. Also the antenna, and the wrong knobs on the dash.

Wow Gene........a quiz!!!

Nothing is as it appears.

I caught a few of the items mentioned here by everyone, but certainly not all of them. The first thing I noticed was the odd VIN.

Gene, what the heck kind of monitor and eyeballs do you have.......I couldn't see half the engine details you mentioned even after you listed them and I looked again. WOW what an eye you have buddy.....but then you have probably been looking a lot longer than I have. As far as the appraiser goes, you have to remember who he is working for!!! Good reason to hire your own.

EDIT: Maybe I'll hire that appraiser and put my Fleetline on ebay......or even send to Barrett-Jackson... laugh

VCCA Son,
O.S. mirror is round-square were after market.
Undercoating was available from Chevrolet as far back as atleast 1938-Didn't become common till 1946 wen the dealers discovered they could make big money on it.
Gas tank was a steel color.(was an alloy)
15" wheels were optional on all 1948's...in this area about 50 percent had them.
Hood springs were black.
I still have unloaded only the first pictures but thats enough for me.

I do believe that if I were the guy that appraised that car I would post several billboards with a disclaimer about this appraisal. Thanks guys for clueing in anyone that wonders over here to this site, that may have had ideas of bidding.

P.S.
Ken, the seller posted the VIN on the description part of the car, well it is probably the engine number.

They call me Wacky, but not $70K wacky, I hope! Maybe he made a mistake with the decimal point.

Chevnut, check up on how much memory your computer has, it does make a diference, 128 isn't enough for most of the pictures on the WWW. I added 256 a couple of weeks ago and it is like going from a 26 four cylinder to a 427!

Hey guys...........take a look at the listing again..........someone is actually making offers on this car........too bad you can't see what the offers are.
If anyone knows who the person is making the offers, they should steer him to this site for an education!!!!

Bidding on a car by a seller's partner, friend is often used on the "show car" auctions to encourage others to bid. This also happens on eBay.
or, maybe.....
Maybe someone needs to dispose of some cash that is ill-gotten?

If you haven't done so, open up the video of the engine (listed in the text of the Ebay ad). Be sure to turn on the sound. Sounds like all the engine pieces are there.

Hey now we're getting someplace! Cut the price in half again..... $70 to $35 to $17,500 and I'll buy it. I'm not looking for another 216 car; but I'd take it for a nice driver at $17,500. Slap a set of pipes on it and blue dots and away I'd go.....

42 Bill. Don't bring it to Ohio with Blue Dots. You'll get a ticket. They are not legal here.

So my Blue Dot is still illegal, eh?

Here I am, running around Ohio every single day in my '53 pick-em-up truck, which has a Blue Dot. ( But only one - none of that sissy optional extra right side taillight for me, nosirree. )

No cop has ever noticed. I think they are too shocked by seeing the vehicle go past in February when it is only 5 degrees out. Not to mention, they are probably too young to know what a Blue Dot is!!!

I asked a cop one time about blue dot and he said that they don't mess with vintage cars or trucks that have blue dot. They also don't mess with you if you don't have a front plate. He said that cops know that the cars are not driven that much so they don't usually mess with us unless they are rookie cops. This is in California anyway...Oscar yipp yipp auto

The blue dots are ilegal in Wisconsin also and they will stop you for not having a front plate unless its cold outside.
Just have some one drive your vehicle with blue dots while you follow them. The brake lights are almost impossible to see during the day.

I think blue dots are illegal in Oregon also. But I've run them on various (usually older) cars for years. Never had any trouble. I suppose if you were driving crazy or drunk or whatever and got stopped for that and the cop got pissed, he could write you up for the blue dots also. Not likely in an older car IF you're minding your P's and Q's.

As for the front plates, they are NOT required in Oregon on older cars with permanent plates or "limited use" plates. On the newer cars with "regular" registration, front plates (and rear) are required. Here again, I think the cops cut some slack. My 56 has regular registration and plates BUT, I run a "Fuller Chevrolet" plate on the front. Some years ago I searched the www for "Bill's Chevrolet" and "Fuller Chevrolet" and so on. Found a "Fuller Chevrolet" in GA and contacted them. They sent me some of their "advertising" stuff. Included in the package was a couple of "Fuller Chevrolet" license plates. Pretty neat......

In Ohio Front Plates are required on modern vehicles and antique vehicles with historicle vehicle plates unless you have year of manufacture plates then a front plate is not required. You must first have historicle plates then you can register a year of manufacture plate. You must always have your historicle vehicle plate with the vehicle.

Seat belts were required in 1962 for new cars sold in Wisconsin....and today any car from 1962 and up still requires belts.

To the best of my knowledge in Vermont, if the car had seatbelts new from the factory, you need them now.
