So how do we get the BOD (or whoever) to clarify the difference between campaigning and answering questions and let everyone know what behaviors are ok and what aren’t?

Is there a place on this web sight that explains
what this BOD stuff is all about. I am a new member to this club and I don't have any idea what all this means. Am I supposed to vote? If I am, I wouldn't know who to vote for anyway. Never heard of these people. Now if MrMack, Chevgene, Louis C, Junkyard dog, ECT., I would know who who to vote for. So as of now I won't be sending in my ballot until I learn more about the politics of this group. Thanks...Oscar

RUST to SHINE

If you aren't yet a member of VCCA:

The first thing I believe you should do is print out the application for VCCA membership, (it is included in the information at VCCA.org).
Fill it out and send it in to the VCCA National Membership Secretary along with the correct amount of US funds. Then you will receive a membership I.D. badge by return mail and start receiving the G&D each month.

The VCCA National web site page has a lot of information about the way the National club operates
VCCA Web Page
everything Nationally is done by the elected National Board of Directors and their committees. We have a composite Board of Directors. The country is divided into geographical Areas, and then each Area is divided up into Regions. Each Area has a National Board Member elected by the members within that Area. There are 11 Geographical Areas in the US, from this pool we have 11 National Board Members.

We also have a number of National Board members that are elected At-Large, there are 6 At-Large Board of Directors. Every one in the National club votes for the At-Large members up for election. All of the Board of Directors are elected for 3 year terms on a rotating basis.

Yes, any current member of VCCA should VOTE for any Board position that you can. The ballots are included in the October G&D and you will receive an approiate ballot based upon your Area location.

Also if you have a joint membership (you and your spouse, siginificant other) the second ballot will arrive by US mail.

The local clubs (Regions) all have information as to when and where they meet listed in the G&D under VCCA Regions. They operate and conduct Regional events, with a Regional Board of Directors under a charter from the VCCA.

You may want to check out your local Region and attend a meeting to see if you may like being a member of the Region, I highly reccomend being a member of a local Region. (just my humble opinion)

In the case that I have errored in this disclosure, I am sure that some of the other more well informed members of VCCA will graciously correct my statements.

No 48 Ken, not this year.

I have a good job with the Lone Star Region and We will work to keep The LSR one of the top Regions in VCCA. That means working with some of the very best VCCA members on the planet, They amaze me event after event. I wish all the National candidates as much success and enjoyment as we have at the Regional level, as they work to improve services to the general members of VCCA, whose dues money go toward getting the word out about preserveing and restoreing those fine old Chevrolets to be driven and shown, after all I think that is the goal for the long term.

Thanks MrMack for the information. I am a member of the VCCA and I am joining the South Bay Region. I will be going on my first tour this weekend to a car detailing class in Salinas Ca. It should be fun. I have gotten two issues of the G&D and read everything in it. I read about the people running for the BOD and it really didn't tell me much about them. I will do my best and I will vote and I hope I vote for the right person, it's just I haven't been in this club very long. Thanks and have a good day...Oscar Albretsen

Very good Oscar, I didn't know for sure, since your VCCA number wasn't posted on your profile.

I am sure that those running for the BOD are all well qualified to represent us, when given the chance. I have no doubt that they will try to answer your questions, fully, when they are properly addressed to them

Welcome aboard....and enjoy your ride!

MrMack,

Good for you sir.I respect your wishes and your fine work with your region. I've watched your views here and respect them as well. Your leadership would be welcome and valued at the national level if you ever decided to go that route (IMHO). It's always good to stir the pot once in a while, right?

Stirring the pot, yes, that keeps the beans cooking evenly from top to bottom, I hate the smell of burnt beans, don't you?

You can fool some of the people all the time.

And, you can fool all of the people some of the time.

But, you can't fool all of the people all of the time.

I guess that's a three-liner. But it sure seems to fit someplace. Maybe here.... actually a couple of posts back!

(I think somebody said Abe Lincoln said it. I have NO idea if that's true or not.)

Bill.

Ken's 20 questions - Think about this, we only have one new person running for board as an at large candidate. If we toughen the requirements, then we will have zero.

Mack's comment about a candidate being flooded with inquiries so the members can vote intelligently. When I ran for Board I had ZERO inquiries. I had ZERO inquiries the first full year I was a board member. I have gotten some in this 2nd year.

Does anyone have the email address of Ruth Wagley of Port Charlotte, Florida so we can learn more about her qualifications for the National Board?

The lack of enough information to base an intelligent vote is exactly why I wrote the letter to the editor that was published in the October issue of the G&D. This is particularly true for members who do not participate in Meets, Tours, Chatsite and other VCCA activities where they can meet candidates and others who might have relevant information on the workings of the VCCA.

The campaign issue is multi-faceted. It may be good or bad depending on several facts. The candidates "must refrain" from campaigning. But, 1. No penalties are published, 2. nothing prohibits others from campaigning for a candidate 3. without some recognized means for the candidates to get their positions and commitments to the voters then the election becomes in my opinion a "popularity contest" at best (FYI, I served on the Board for 21 years) or 4. the prohibition dramatically favors the incumbents.

I fully understand and support efforts to restrict the possibility of "buying" a Board position. However to prohibit, restrict or otherwise reduce the communications between candidates and the membership is WRONG! and not in the best interest of the membership.

The present Board has commented on several occasions about the pitiful few members who vote and then will not do anything to help members feel more comfortable in voting. Hopefully some more members will go through the process of contacting the candidates, discussing their qualifications with those who know them and other means to make in informed vote. I believe that the higher percentage of members who vote the more desirable a Board position will become and then more and better candidates will choose to run. The Board really needs legal, financial, business expertise and folks who are dedicated (and will on a timely basis perform duties) to improving the Club for it to survive.

Chipper is right on.
This club has to wake up and smell the roses. The candidates should be here talking up a good argument for the future of this organization to survive the next 45 years.
As of today my G&D has not arrived and the suspense is killing me. Who the heck is running?...and what do they intend to do to remedy the events of the last year. At this time of the year the very first page of this web site should have a link to the candidates running for office. That's news guys. That's important stuff!
Like I have said before, the G&D is not to be relied upon for club news. Does anyone buy a monthy magazine for current events?
Jeeze...it's about time the club uses this medium.
...and don't tell me that the majority of the club dosen't have, or know how to use a computer!

From the October 06 G&D:
There are three candidates running for two At-large positions on the BOD

1) Don Williams* Wooster, Ohio (Chevyguru)

2) Ruth Wagley, Port Charlotte, FL

3) Steve Scott* Lindenhurst IL (novasscott)

*incumbants

Area 9,
Bob Denison present Director is not listed as a candidate.

Listed are:

1) Paul Dimbath, Lakeland FL

2) William J. Saylors, Sparta, TN.

Areas 3,6, and 10 have candidates running unopposed.

Area 1 Director Jean Fink has resigned and has a 1 1/2 year unexpired term, , and the BOD should appoint someone to succede Ms. Fink, according to how I read the by-laws.

Ballots must be returned by Dec 1, 2006

I agree with what Chipper said above.

What would happen if I endorsed some candidates here on Chatter or said who I voted for?
