Ken
Thanks for the answers. It's pretty neat to know that I have seen 6 1/2 of these cars in the past 3 years. You owners are soo lucky!

Not me guy, a roaring four and a stovebolt six makes me so happy that if I had one of those twin four babys I would be so happy I probably would think I was someone else!

I'm sure that Ken already knows about this car but just in case - Someone left some books behind at Bendigo swap meet. Amongst them is "The Worlds Motor Museums" by T R Nicholson, publised 1970 in London. It mentions a 1918 V8 Chevrolet in the Horseless Carriage Museum, Mount Rushmore Rd, Rapid City, South Dakota. I don't remember this museum existing when we were in Rapid City for the anniversary meet so wonder where this car is now? We did see a motor at the Pioneer Auto Museum at Murdo. Ian Bourke

Hi Ian Yes Tom and I looked around Rapid City for this Rapid City Model D when we were planing the very first Chev 4 Tour in Custer in fall of 1991. We met the late VCCA member Phil Redden there, who showed us around the Mt. Rushmore/Rapid City area. Phil told us there was a fire in the Horseless Carriage Museum in the 70's and its Model D burned up in the fire. The engine in the Pioneer Museum in Murdo came from this car Phil believed. A VCCA member in Minnisota we think also has some parts from this burnt Model D.
My boy Erik finished painting the engine hood black on my 1918 Model G roadster last Saturday and I installed it Sunday and took a short road test. I finished wiring the tail light and update stop light tonight - now just needs to wire the head lights [and find a good ground through all that fresh paint] the next few night - then load it up on the trailer this Saturday. Erik and I are leaving early Sunday morning for the Chev 4 Tour in Santa Fe area - about a 900 mile trip - should arrive early Monday morning. Tom is bringing David Perry for Sydney - should have a blast! KenK

Must be rough being a teacher and only getting 11 weeks annual holidays! Hope you have a great time on the 4 cyl tour - hard to believe it's nearly two years since we were in Paducah. Shame about the model D in Rapid city - at least that explains why we didn't see the museum. Ian
