Hi dads 28,

This Q sounds familiar.

8180 is the designation of a coupe built by Fisher.

014061 Body: Is the sequential number of the Fisher Coupes built.

4040904 Stamped engine number: Is the sequential number for 1928 engines.

{I am in the process of rebuilding my office and my reference material is packed. Perhaps someone else can fill in for me}

Hi dads 28,
I have the same problem, but no #'s to start with, the frame # was a tag on a wooden part, as far as I can tell. Not much wood left and no tag. It’s not running in a long-time, but just for insurance reasons would it be nice to have an ID#. If it’s not registered it will be old iron and that goes for $100 a ton and that wouldn’t cover my loss of $4000 of new wooden parts and all the parts that I still have to hunt down. I can’t help you, but I follow the conversation with interest. I have two engines and I’m not sure which one is going to be the donor and which one is THE engine. How do I come up with an ID for this truck, I don’t think there will be many left, only 151 truck chassis made that year. And a whooping total of 410 trucks chassis the next year. I could pick a frame # from the range that was used that year and re-make a tag. But you all know Murphy’s Law.

Good luck and wisdom
Richard

A question for both of you. Do you have a title and what number is on the title?

If that is the situation, you will have to "fess up" and submit your vehicle to whatever system your state has. In some states a Sheriff or other law enforcement officer must inspect the vehicle and "assign" a number. This number is then used to register the vehicle. If I had your problem I would contact a neighboring DMV and see what the rules are. (You don't want to tip your hand to the DMV that you will actually use.) In some cases they will use the engine number which most vehicles will have.

After all is said and done, you can purchase a blank data plate, and have it reflect whatever number is used.

NEVER REFER TO ANY OF THESE NUMBERS AS A VIN NUMBER. I don't need to tell you why.

Hi Ray,
no title on this one either, I'll visit my insurance guy first, he might know a way to get to a number. But you're right, I wouldn't wake up a sleeping dog, that's why I jumped in on this question.
Thanks

Richard

Like the song goes, "You gotta know when to hold'em and know when to fold 'em" Never expose your hand until you have the bets covered, and see the cards of the one that called the hand.
