Hi 28Chevrolet, the 8170 is the code for coach body the j10361 is for built at Janesville ,Wis.
being a low body number i would think that the car was painted upper body black and lower body avenue green with a gold body stripe ,body mouldings black the disc wheel in dunsmuir grey or natural wood wheels, garnish mouldings avenue green ,door opening facings and scuff plates black ,window offsets avenue green, instrument pannel avenue green with depressions cut in black, if you need I can email you the striping diagram with the correct positions and widths of the stripes .jim

28chevrolet

Your vehicle serial number, 21AB26558 breaks down as follows:

21 = Janesville, Wisconsin assembly plant.
AB denotes 1928 passenger car.
26558 = 25558 AB vehicle assembled at Janesville. First AB built in Janesville on the 1st of March had serial number 24463. First AB build in Janesville on the 1st of April had serial number 38027. So, there were 13564 AB units built in Janesville during the month of March, 1928 . Yours was number 2095 of the 13564, so pro rate it anyway you want to determine approximately what day it was built.

The Fisher tag, job 8170 = 2 door coach. J = Janesville assembly and the 10361 is the Fisher build sequence number.

About your paint scheme. In an earilier posting by you, I answered your paint scheme question in response to a statement MrMack made to you. Herb gave you a cross reference of 1928 paint matching using modern stuff. That's probably as close as your going to get from this group. If I knew the mixing formula, I probably wouldn't list it here for fear of giving out mis information.

Hi 28chevrolet,

Looks like you already have most of the answers, so I'll just fill in the blanks.

Engine color: Dark green/gray. Correct color is available from the Filling Station.

Engine covers and plates: ??? Valve cover and plug wire cover is black. Not sure what you call plates unless that is the pushrod covers and they are engine color.

Trim plate between shell and radiator core. Black

Headlight rings: Black in the recessed area.

Undercarriage: Yep, all black.

Although you didn't ask: Almost everything else bolted on the engine such as generator, starter, distributor, ect is black. Exception is the water pump, not the fan, is engine color. Fan is black.

Hope I didn't miss anything.

Agrin

Yeah,
I guess you should get used to not having a 1928 Chevrolet National AB 2 door sedan, and get used to having a 1928 Chevrolet National AB Coach. That is the way Chevrolet described a 2 door closed sedan!
I Have a 1928 Chevrolet National AB Sedan (4 door)also built in Janesville Wis . probably only a couple of months apart in dates.
Both of them are due to celebrate their Silver Anniversity birthdays in 2003, maybe we should give them a Birthday Party, a wash & wax, fresh pan full of oil and an extra ration of Marvel Mystery oil and fill the tank with some 87 octane Unleaded in the fuel tank. I also am going to give mine some new window channel and I installed a set of new hinge mount sideview mirrors and a new set of tires during the winter!
Maybe we can take them on a trip to Santa Fe N.M. for the VCCA National 4 cylinder tour and eat some birthday cake!

Donald, You don't know how badly I want to make the JYD Prowl! Maybe something will work out! I plan on buying a Texas Lotto ticket next week.
but I don't want the '28 to hear that I won't be around that week to install her new window channel ( that is on order!)

Hey 28chevrolet! Those Junkyard Dog Burgers that you mentioned consist of two slices of tomatoes, some lettuce, two slices of dell pickles, some mustard, and a quarter pound of nicely cooked cat meat! The burger comes with a bunch of really greasy french fries, and it is all served on a really cool Chevrolet hub cab. Yum, yum! And, for a drink you have your choice of Bud, Coors or Mug Root Beer, and the drink is included with the meal. :cool2: drink drink laugh laugh laugh By the way, you can't keep the Chevrolet hub cap!

By the way, there is an all original 1928 Chevy coach sitting in an old shop about 10 miles from my house. It even still has the original upholstery in place. The car is really nice too! Nothing is being done with it......the car just sits there day after day. :(

As I recall it has the correct color..........Black! ha ha! The fellow that owns the car, pulled the engine several years ago (don't know why), and then he painted the engine black as I remember. The last time that I saw the car, the engine was still sitting on the floor and it wasn't back in the car. :( :( :( mad

hey junkyard, maybe you could convince the guy to give her a new home if you would keep him in supply of those famous burgers! laugh Better offer him rootbeer because the coors may give him too much gas.I doubt if the BURGERS would do it wink

Ha ha!.........you are correct.........the JYD Burgers definitely wouldn't give him gas. I know that the Budweiser would though because he tried it once. Anyway, he won't sell the car and it is a nice original '28 too. As I recall he purchased the car in Wisconsin about five years ago for $4,000 and then he hauled it out to Oregon on a trailer. I believe that he purchased the car from the family that bought it new. I saw the car right after he got it and it was all original....including the paint, the upholstery, the tools, and etc. Right after that the rear fenders came off and he repainted them black with Krylon. Next, the engine came out and it was also painted black with Krylon. The last time that I saw the car nothing else was done and the engine was still sitting on the floor and the car itself was being used for storage. :( :( :(

Ya, I know! He came to my shop and I tried to show him how to do different things correctly but nothing soaked in. When he told me that he put Krylon spray can primer and then Krylon spray can black paint on the fenders I had a fit! That was such a nice original car before he started. Dudes that I know would have killed to have this car....it was that nice! A lot of things could have been learned (research wise) from this car because it was so original. Too late now! :( :( :( mad mad mad
