If you were going to sell an antique automobile, what time of the year would list an ad and where? I would like to hear from owners that ACTUALLY sold a car. If the first words of your reply are something like..."well I never did sell a car but" please don't. I'm looking for actual combat experience - not tire kickers. Thanks

I sold 2 vehicles within the last 2 weeks. So from my experience, now is a good time.

With the Classic car hobby, I have found that there seems to be no better as certain vehicles it takes the right buyer and when they see that right car they want they will buy it no matter the time of the year. Its not like that cheaper beater right before winter here in the midwest that would not sell as fast in June or July.

35Mike, where did you advertise or list your vehicles?

What magazine, website or company did you use to sell a car? Any one that you would avoid? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Hawkeye,
I sold both vehicles locally, without any advertising. The '35 Chevy coupe went to a guy who came to my house to get some Model T parts. The Model AA Truck sold to a fellow I had met several years ago and ran into him at a fundraising dinner.
I was just making the point that there are people out there who have money to spend if something comes along that strikes their fancy.
I would run some local ads and see what happens. Good Luck,

Mike

Thanks for all the comments. Since I finished restoring my 1950 Bel Air several years ago, I just don't have the time to enjoy my other car. It's a 1934 Chrysler CA four door sedan. A true survivor with only 29,800 miles, original two-tone paint and mohair upholstery. I bought it from the original owner who only used it to go to church on Sunday and on long trips. I think I will wait until March or April and run an ad in Hemmings. Maybe I will find a person like me who does not want to restore it and keep it all unrestored original.

Original patina is becoming a "thing" so you might find the buyer you're looking for. You might also look for a Chrysler forum that tends toward originality like our forum does for Chevys and register there if they have a For Sale forum.
