Hello, just recently picked up a 53 Bel Air that was originally built as an all black car, Paint code is 480. My question is that the Bel Air emblems on the sides of the car are missing. It doesn't look as though there were ever installed. Is that possible? I am about to take the rear arm rests out to see if there is an evidence of bodywork to support the fact the the holes for the emblems were filled. I have seen this one other time on a Bel Air 4 door in a junk yard that was all Horizon Blue, same thing, no emblems on either side and no evidence of them ever being there. Thoughts?

All Bel Airs had the Bel Air name and gold crest......little holes are easy to fill. Also all Bel Airs has the insert painted a different color. An alll black car would have had an ivory color.....Same color would been used for he wheels.

Thank you for the information Gene!! It seems this car I just purchased is full of mysteries, it will be fun putting things back the way they should be. currently that area on my car is black and the emblems are gone, maybe someone was trying to mildly customize the car?? Someone has also painted the top Ivory, so I know that the paint on the car is not original and I am fine with that. Also the hood ornament you sent me cleaned up nice and is mounted on the hood after removing the '54 hood bird. Thanks again!

Dave
