I'm new to the forum though I've been a vcca member for six years. In 2016 I bought a beautiful 1932 Confederate Special Sedan from a collection in Shawnee Mission Kansas, but I am only now really getting into it, having been preoccupied with a 1928 Pierce Arrow in the meantime. I am a professional historian specializing in Civil War and Southern history, so a Confederate seemed appropriate. Living in a university town--I was a professor for several years at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg--I like to say I have the most politically incorrect car in town! It was built in Oakland and originally would have been paint scheme 94 and trim 17, but at some time it was repainted maroon with orange striping (quite coincidentally Virginia Tech's colors are maroon and orange). I intend to return it to its original color scheme, not for showing but just because that's the historian in me. I have innumerable questions as I start learning more about the car and beg pardon from all for peppering the forum with my posts. I look forward to getting better acquainted with you as time goes on. I should add that I come by my interest naturally. In the 1950s my father was a Chevy salesman in Kansas City, MO. And despite being named William, everyone calls me Jack.

A little late Jack but "WELCOME" to the VCCA Chat Site. A great place to get answers to your questions . I think we share some common interest and backgrounds though I am far from being a professor. My grandfather and grandmother both had chauffeur licenses . Their choice of vehicle was Chevrolet for their personal car but my Grandfather drove a Pierce-Arrow in the 20's for his employer. Whenever I visited my Grandmother she would go to the window to see what I was driving . She was the State President for the American Legion Auxiliary in the early 30's and boasted she drove all over the state of NH in her Chevy and never broke down. My wifes father collected quite a few books on the Civil War many of which he gave me. I find the personal stories to be much more interesting than the military facts. You might want to update your profile to indicate you are a VCCA member.

If you can provide me your member ID I'll search the database for you and unlock your site club member privileges. I searched by name and the only Jack Davis listed joined in 1965 and lives in Indiana.

Missed that, I found you and marked you as a club member. You should now have the option to edit your preferences to show the club logo under your name. That way everyone knows. As Steve said Welcome to Chat!
