The attached photos show the under dash heater on my Confederate, and the dash control knob. The heater says "Chevrolet Delux" on one of the doors. Was this standard equipment on a Special Sedan or an added accessory? Ditto the cigarette lighter on the left of the steering wheel, as shown? Thanks for any wisdom.

The heater and lighter pictured are from the mid 1930's....the heater for a 1932 was more primitive looking

The first year a heater could be factory installed was 1955. Prior to that they were dealer installed.

Often heaters were installed if the early 30's is after the cars were a couple of years old and owners could afford them.

The 32 heater is a Harrison tombstone heater and would be labeled with the Chevrolet logo. Harrison also produced the same exact heater with the Harrison logo. The photo is of a Harrison Sr. Tombstone heater that resembles the chevy heater but it’s quite a bit bigger. The Sr. Versions were dealer installed in other GM cars like the Buicks, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac cars.

Thanks very much for the information and the photo. As luck would have it, there is such a heater on ebay and I've just bought it. Wouldn't have known what to buy without your help. Jack

Could you possibly send me a photo of the dash control button for the Harrison heater? The one I have currently, for the later 1930's model in my Confederate, is a 1" diameter white plastic. One right hand turn to the first stop turns on the fan, which still works. A turn to the second stop makes a red light in the knob come on, and I presume starts the heat flowing [I haven't tried to see if heat comes on yet]. Any possibility this knob would work for the 1932 Harrison?

As Chev nut stated, the original was just a toggle switch which turned on the fan. Unless you put a water valve on the connection for water line, heat is always flowing through the core. The original toggle switches are not in existence as far as I know anymore as I’ve only seen one original and it was not for sale. The switch you describe is what most people use these days and the switch often is a rheostat that controls the fan speed. Often the bulb dims or brightens with dim meaning slow and bright mean high speed. There are original schematics for the heater available I believe on Bill Barkers website. It shows the proper location and plumbing routing for the Chevy tombstone heater.

Thanks so much. Looked on the Baker 1931 website and it shows the heater as an option that year but I could not find the schematic for locating and plumbing the heater. Am I not looking in the right spot?
