Do you have the option to delete or edit old threads you have created? In other words, if you find a misspelling or other error in a post you've made, do you have the "Edit" function to correct it? If you've listed something for sale in the Swap Meet forums and the item sells do you have the ability to delete the ad?

The reason I'm asking is I've noticed some users editing old posts and have others saying they don't have that ability. Thanks for your feedback.

I just checked a week old post and I was able to edit it. Also the same for a post made in March 2023.

I made a post last week in a thread. A little later I realized another person had already said the same thing so I tried to delete it and it would not let me even though no other post had been made after mine. The delete button was there.

Interesting. Try it again, may have been a temporary connection issue. One should be able to delete his post if there are no answers to it. This forum software is pretty sad but changing everything to different software would be a real chore I'm told.

I have made many posts on this site. The oldest post that is still up was made October 8, 2020 and the newest was made May 2, 2023. In many cases I started the thread. None of my posts currently have the Edit button.

Slight correction/update.

After making the above post, it does indeed have the Edit button.

I will provide an update if/when it disappears.

My guess is it appears for an undetermined amount of time before disappearing.

I am still able to edit a post made 6 years ago. At one time I think the post could only be edited for one hour I am guessing that changed due to a software or host update/change.

I can understand not being able to delete your post if there are other posts to the thread. I assume you can edit one of your older posts in a thread to have no content. But you cannot delete it completely.

Another thought to consider. Maybe non-members cannot edit their posts. I noticed that Ookpik does not have VCCA Member status in his profile.

I went back to one of my earliest posts (31March 2008). I was able to go into Edit mode. When I hit the "Delete Post" button I received an error message that the post could not be deleted. There were multiple posts from others in the thread.

I was able to edit the post and submit the change with no problems.

It could be a membership issue. If it is I'm not sure it's really a membership "benefit" to be able to edit a post. What it does is make work for the volunteer Moderators.

The post I was referring to now has additional post after mine. I did try to delete again and I could not which I expected.

The software was changed a few months ago but under the previous software the "edit" appeared for the poster only for a short time. The current software is showing the "edit" tag on all posts in this thread though like Tiny I am a moderator so my well make a difference.

I made the following posts - pictured below - in this thread yesterday.

After logging in today, the older post does NOT have the Edit button while newer one DOES.

No clue what that means other than the Edit button in my first post lasted less than 24 hours before disappearing.

It's beginning to look like the ability to edit may be linked to club membership. If that is the case it explains a lot. If you need something done by a moderator just click the flag icon top right of the post's text box (report icon) and ask a moderator to help you. It sends a message to all mods and when one is available they can help you out.
