Good evening. I’m new to this group and look forward to meeting lots of vintage truck enthusiasts. I just bought a 1947 GMC EC303 1 1/2 ton truck. I know it’s a 1947, but it is same body style as the 1941-1946. I have searched the web and apparently there is an overlap in 1947 where they wrapped up the 41-46 body style and introduced the post war body style. With that being said, the truck is very clean and straight, and actually starts. It was running in 2011, but has sat in a barn since. I am looking for the windshield and rear glass. My question is this, is the glass the same in all the sizes, meaning 1/2 ton, 1 ton and 1 1/2 tons. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Dave

Welcome to the VCCA. I believe it is all flat glass. You might try some old glass shops. They may have the template to cut the glass. Don't know about the different 1/2, 1 ton and 1 1/2 size's.

First, just to clear something up, if your truck looks like a 1946, it IS a 1946. There is a myth that there were 2 versions of the 1947 model year. The 1946 model year had 2 versions. The 1947's did not. The second version of the 1946 trucks were however held over to somewhere around March to May of 1947, when the 1947 models were introduced, which is where the confusion arises. All General Motors literature ALWAYS referred to the last of the '41 to '46 style trucks as 1946 model year trucks. This means that if you are searching for parts for your truck in a General Motors parts book, you will ALWAYS have to look for 1946, and never for 1947. ALL 1947 trucks are the newer style trucks.
That said, the glass in all cabs regardless of tonnage is the same. The original windows were all laminated safety glass. There was no tempered glass used.
Welcome to VCCA Chat! I personally think you have found the best Chevrolet/GM site on the net. 🙂
You have a very nice looking truck there! Any plans for what you might mount on the back?
Also, I should add that some jurisdictions apparently titled new trucks by the year they were first purchased... thus, quite a few 1946 GM trucks were titled as 1947's. Mine was one of them.
Dave Welcome to Chatter Looks like a good truck. I will agree with Ole but for a different reason, going by the shape of the cab immediately above the windscreen it is shaped for a 2 piece flat glass screen. If it was a curved glass style the ridge down the centre would not be there. Tony
