Hello all,

I've got an 83 Malibu Classic in the shop right now with a hard check engine light. Vehicle came in a few months back as a crank no start. In that instance a previous tech had installed a new distributor and coil but didnt hook up the ground under the coil and some wire burnt up.

We got the car running well but customer is back to take care of the cel.

We have an older snap-on scanner that we were able to pull a code with. Code 46, no rpm signal to the pcm. The code doesnt clear with the battery trick.

There is a purple/white signal wire coming off the dizzy that goes to the pcm for rpm signal. I scoped the wire and the signal looks awful.

Another interesting thing is that the vehicle will start and run without the engine computer connected.

Any advice or input would greatly help us out!
