I want to remove the "medallion" from the garnish molding to prep for paint. It is retained by what appears to be a peened over attachment leg. Don't think I described it clearly but I hope the photo helps.
I think I can uncurl it to remove but would appreciate any suggestions as I would like to reattach after paint.

My '40 garnishes have similar chrome pieces on them. I was able to uncurl the rivets enough to get them off. To re-install them I carefully re-set the rivet studs. I also used a two-part acrylic type glue as back-up. I did not use super glue because it would set before I could re-set the rivet studs. That was over 20 years ago. On one of them the glue has broken loose but the rivet studs are still holding.
