To begin with, there are several (1929-1949, 1929-1951, 1929-1953 )Chevrolet Master Parts Catalogs on eBay right now in the $30 range. If you buy a 1929-1947 book, it was called 1929-1947 Chevrolet Master Price List. A 1929-1949 or 1929-1951 Catalog will show you everything that you will probably need to know about part numbers and what specific years that they fit. These newer parts books will often tell you if a particular part was changed or if it will fit any newer trucks.
The good news on trucks is that many mechanical parts, fit numerous years. Trucks also shared alot of sheet metal for several years.
Start with an official Chevrolet Book and it will amaze you with tons of information.
If you have a specific question, on a specific part, feel free to ask us.

The VCCA Tech Advisor for that truck covers the 47-55 1St series so I am guessing those years would have the largest number of common parts. If you do get a "parts book" I would suggest one that covers a year later than the 47. That way many of the changes that were made during the production year will be covered.

What s a 1947 1st series truck? There was a 1st and 2nd series 1946' All1947 trucks were the new Advanced Desigh type. The parts book with the best coverage would be a book two yeas newer than the year of the vehcile.

It is the title listed in the listing of tech advisors in the G&D as printed. It does not mean that all are 1st or second series rather I believe indicates the 55 has a first and second. I can see where it could be misunderstood. I did not print it-only quoted it as printed. If the 47 was the "new" Advanced Design" does that mean that the later 48-55 (first) were the "later " advanced design" ? Sorry could not resist!!

The 2nd design 1946 is often confused and believed to be a 1947.
