Does anyone know the location of the Serial Number on a 35 Transmission. I've been told it's on the passenger side just above the pan, is that right?

Interesting post. I was not aware that Chevy was putting serial numbers on transmissions in the 30’s. I know that there was typically a casting number and maybe some type of date code in the casting mold.

You may be right and maybe that's why I can't find one but I have a chart that says there is one.

The 3 speed transmission in my 1936 GMC has a Serial # RA64921, I think that this is the same transmission that was in the 1935 Master.

He did not specify if it is a Master or Standard but I believe it is for his Standard.

It is for my Standard but are the serial numbers in the same place for Standards and Masters and where did you find that?

For 1937's 38's and 39's the serial number was apparently stamped on the machined surface on the top of the case, behind the top cover.
Have you looked there?
If there is a serial number, it will be somewhere on a flat machined/milled surface.

I have not looked there. Maybe that's why I couldn't find it. Do I have to take the floor board out to see it?

Yes, I believe you will need to lift the floor board.
