I finished my valve job a week ago, all new valves, valve guides, resurface, repaired a very small combustion chamber crack with stitch pins. I also installed a Best head gasket with new head bolts from the Filling Station. So here’s my question Best recommends retorque in their instructions, how many times? I’ve torqued to 65 pounds cold 3 times and each time there a little looser than 65, is this normal or is the gasket still settling? I forget to mention I put two coats of Permatex copper spray on head gasket as Best recommended. Also forget to say the engine is running perfect 👍

when i did mine, i did the same with teh spray on the gasket, used guide pins dropped no the head, then put in new head bolts, then tightened them in sequence per the manual in steps. something like 40ft/lb 55ft/lb then 65ft/lb and walked away. did not do the 65ft/lb three times, that will stretch the bolts, and that is a whole other story.

after i ran it several times say 3+-4 months, i went back and retorqued to 65ft/lb. also checked all my other bolts, nuts, screws

Years ago our shop would retorque the head bolts after 500 miles. The shop manual says to retorque with every tune-up.
