So my friend just took delivery of a soft top coupe. It was advertised as 1926, however one of the photos was of a Capital tag. I believe it is a 1927 although we couldn't find the tag on the car. Is the engine 1928? Could this be the original engine? Thanks
The block was cast August 1st 1928 according to the number on Your block........H 1 8..... I don't have a 28 engine but I'm sure others can add more information..........Joe............
The number stamped number 4825458 says that this block was the 4,825,458th four cylinder block produced by Chevy. I think the total number of these blocks produced was around 5.3 million.
If you post some more pics of the car, that will give more clues about its year and model. For example a pic of the radiator shell.

Job #7250 was used by Fisher Body for the calendar year 1927. It is a 2-passenger Cabriolet (RS) from Cleveland Ohio. So it could be an early 1928 and the motor could be original. If it was built in 1928 it would have job #8190. Now that I look at the casting date; it wouldn't be the original engine if built in 1927. It was one of the last built 4 cylinders in August 1928.

Thanks, I am thinking if it was cast in August it is probably not the original engine although the car only has 22,000 on the odometer. The top fabric is in tatters so will need to be replaced. Does anyone have patterns or suggestions? I will try to get photos.
Also, the car has tubular bumpers that appear to have been commercially made for his car. I have only seen one picture of a 27 with similar bumpers on the back. Was this an aftermarket addition?
