Hello guys,
This 37 4 door sedan Im building came with no keys.. I got the cylinder out of the door handle via the little pin and plan on ordering another cylinder set. The trunk handle is a different story. I can't find a way to remove the lock from the handle. Another issue is that the handle seems to close the latching mechanism in the 3:00 position. I read somewhere that in 37 they made a vertical and a horizontal locking trunk handle.... Could this be what's going on? Id really like to get the original trunk handle to work instead of forking out $125 for an aftermarket handle.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

All 1937 had a vericle handle. The handle pulls out of the lock (latch) ....do you mean getting the lock cylinder out of the handle? If so drive out tne tiny pin on the side of the handle shaft (very small)

Ok... I just looked in these boxes and found out that the TRUNK handle (which is a bit smaller than the door handles) Does in fact have a removable pin, but what is labeled as door handles in the box (I bought this car fully disassembled in pieces) looks to be 3 different type handles.... The Rear door handles look to be the same, but the front door handles markings look very different. Hmmmm. Threw me for a curve there.. Anyone recognize these on a 4 door MD?

he two rear door handles are the same (right or left)
The handle with the lock (key) is for the right front door and the reminig handle is for the left front door.
The handle with the grove in the center is for the trunk. It is a 1938-1939 handle that Chevrolet sold for replacement for 1937 in the later years.
The trunk key and glove box key are the same but MAY not be in your example.

The door key number should be stamped on the square SHAFT (8000 0R 9000) NUMBER SERIES.
Not sure about the replacement trunk handle.
Door and ignition key the same.

The 2 on the left are 37 non locking handles and are correct for all doors except the front passenger door. The top one on the right looks like a 38 trunk handle. I don't know what the bottom one on the right is, it does not have the design on it that a 37 should have. The 38 trunk handle will work fine in a 37 trunk but it should have the design like the ones on the left. Oh, and the front passenger door should be a locking handle.

I did not realize the front and rear handles are different. What is the difference? Is it the length of the shaft?

Your guess is as good as mine.....all I know is the the prt numbers are different.

I did install a locking handle on the left side of my '39....just used a right locking handle and it was up-side-down so the key had to be inserted up-side-down. For 1939 Chevrolet did offer a left locking door handle as an accessory.

FWIW I swapped sides with the door handles on my 38 so I can unlock the car from my side.

I replaced all of the door handles with rechromed ones on my '37 40 years ago. I don't remember that there was any difference in them other than the locking handle. But, that was 40 years ago and I am old, maybe I just don't remember. LOL stressed
