My parts books list different part numbers for steering knuckle supports for 1949-1952 verses 1953-1954. I recall that the difference is in the hight of the centerline of the spindle in relation to the upper and lower A frames. I cannot recall if the later version support raises or lowers the elevation of the cars bumper off the ground. I have supports from 54 cars however I do not have an earlier set for comparison. Does anyone know which increases the front end hight?

Hello,

53-54 should lower a car that previously had 49-52 uprights.

Here is a link to an article w/ pictures posted to another message board.

Hope it helps.

Drtyler,

The information that you furnished is exactly what I have been looking for and then some. I had searched the jalopy journal but did not come up with this post. I guess I need to improve on my search skills. Besides the chevy sedan I am working on, my son is looking to upgrade brakes on a 48 pickup. This information rings his chimes as well. Thank you very much.

Sorry I could not post this sooner - still have computer issues. This was posted on the Chevy Talk site some time ago. The spindle on the left is 1953-54 and the other is 1949-52.
