The starter failing might have been providence as it turns out the starter is incorrect for my 38 based on earlier references. Starter tag says 738G 910427, possibly for a 36 or earlier which might explain why i always had trouble starting as though the starter didnt turn fast enough or strong enough. I ordered a starter from ebay seller Glen at Chargers Auto Electric. pn: 1107009. Some pics to show the starter i have after cleaning it an painting, all show, no go.
. The starter pictured fits 1938 - 54 trucks and 38 - 48 passenger. The 1937 starter engaged with a Bendix spring and was longer than the 38. The 38 starter will work on a 37 with linkage modifications. The 1929 - 34 and 1934 - 36 starters also used Bendix springs. How does it not work? . I'm in Berkeley if you want to drop by, I can show you a few starters. . Lou . .
Falling from a five foot bench might have effected it. I bought a 1107009, it’s on it s way. Thank you for the offer. I’m a bit anxious to get my 38 back on the road. I just need to get my carb straightened out
