I mentioned i was having trouble reattaching linkage and cables to carburetor, I'm pretty sure this carb is not stock for my 38. -Can anyone identify this carb and should i replace it with a correct carb vs messing with this one?
That is a Rochester replacement carb sold to replace the W-1 Carter that was original. I had one on my 39 for many years and it was a direct replacement without any linkage changes. The Rochester performed well. I put the W-1 back on and it also works great.
Post more photos and describe your problems maybe someone can help with more detail.
The control cable for the throttle should pass through the linkage rod, holding it in place. Your rod looks to be modified or tampered with. Maybe someone replaced it with a home made one. It shouldn’t have two holes drilled in it.
My 1951 1 Ton is now on the road! My 38 Master 4 Door is also now on the road .
Thank you for the help. The carb actually worked when I took everything apart to clean and paint but I failed to take good pictures prior to disassembly. I I believe the throttle cable is suppose to go through the rod. Who knows with the prior owner did but the rod has only one whole, I put the cotter pin it but think it should be the throttle cable instead. I know I’m close and just a little off
I prefer a w1, but many out there and one with the correct choke and throttle cable brackets except one identified as a late 40s. If anyone has a correct 38 W1 with correct choke and throttle bracket, I’m interested. Thanks Mike
