Well... I just finished packing in the Graphite rope into the Dubonnet units... put them all back together.. filled with ATF... they sat for 48 hours.. no leaks... yea.... happy about that... now getting ready to mount them ... and I bought a NOS king pin set on Ebay... it has the bronze bushings, instead of the original needle bearings.... so here are a few questions about installing this king pin set... The bronze bushings fit snug..(had to very lightly tap them in (after lining up the grease fitting hole)...... but they feel like they could easily rotate in there... how to prevent that....??? And there were a few parts in the kit that I could not find a use for (see photo, they are in the foreground) there are two lock rings.. that don't seem to have a place in this application... and those two round dish type things... they fit in the top and bottom of king pin mounts where the grease caps are driven in on the top & bottom..... I do not see a use for these 'plates 'either...... My repair manual says the bearing goes on the bottom... with the dust cover side up... but it does not say where those flat washer type shims go..... I assume they go under the bearing... Am I correct on that..... please any advice is greatly appreciated.....
Put the bearing so that it has the weight of the car is on it (single eye in the arm bearing under the spindle, single eye on the spindle bearing on top). The 4 smooth dished caps go at the ends of the king pins (there will be a groove for them to sit in) and then a good hit with a hammer distorts them to stay in place. The squarer dished caps and circlips I have not seen in that application before. Tony
So.. Gene says the bronze bushings are free to rotate... then I don't need to worry if they are not driven in super tight... the repair manual and Tony says the 'I' beam axel with leaf springs has the bearing on top of the spindle... but with the Dubonnet suspension, like mine, the bearing goes under the spindle (carrying the weight).... so far , I think I have it correct... But... does the flat shin type washer go Under the bearing....?? the repair manual says nothing about it....
............. WISDOM & CLARITY................ GRANTS..... UNDERSANDING..... Thanks for helping me figure this stuff out... just wanting 'her' to run again.... to be alive again.....
