I have relocated the hot water shutoff valve but can't seem to line it up according to samples I've seen. Is there an adaptor to enable the valve opening to clear the engine block? I'm on my way to ace hardware to see.

That is not the correct shut-off valve,The correct valve is straight with the shut-of branching off at an angle.
On yours the hose connection is branching off a an angle.
Also the valve finger grips on the correct are stamped and not cast.

With that being said, the one I have must be shorter in length? I have one from an early vette that was sold as a 38 model. Is my thermostat Housing correct? PN: 838339

The housing is correct - the shut off valve is incorrect.

Let me correct my self. I was describing a 1940. The 1938 and 1939 DOES NOT have the littet swivel handle but rather the hex center thing that loos like a bolt head and a large nut around it and the hose nipple is at an angle and is nuch longer than yours. The one you have does not look like any tinng Chevrolet had.
Do you have a 1938 accessory booklet? I would scan a picture but my scnner is down.

[Linked Image from vccachat.org]I found the one i purchased from ebay, suppose to be for a 38 but i think it is for an early corvette. I am going to use it as long as it works and fits. I'm now glad i at least bought one now that i know the one on the car is completely wrong.
