Working with a 1948 3116 Chevrolet Suburban and I want to find out as much information as possible. Who has the best vintage Vin and Eng number decoding sites

If the 48 is like my 41 I found a lot of information from the body tag on the firewall. The engine information was found from the number on the block. On the side of the carb it should say the type/model it is. On top of the transmission is the year if I remember correctly. You might need to remove grease / dirt etc. to find some of the numbers. The ones on my motor were not visible until years of dirt/grease were removed.
I have found that having an old car is a constant project that is never done. I think that is a good thing. Keeps me learning new things. Having two from different eras is just a form of higher education.
