1941 216 motor 6v

We finally have it on the road. It was recommended when I got the car to use 30 non-detergent oil when getting it going. Now that it is finally on the road an I have had it out a few times I want to change the oil just to be safe. Drain out anything that may have been flushed loose from the years of sitting.

What oil do you use in your 216 engines and why? Synthetic or normal? 5w-30, 30, something else? Modern or the non-detergent (harder to find in this area). I know there is a recommendation in the manual that I have but oil has improved drastically in the last 81 years.

I have found that having an old car is a constant project that is never done. I think that is a good thing. Keeps me learning new things. Having two from different eras is just a form of higher education.

seems most are using standard 10w-30 straight off the shelf, choose your brand.
as noted the oil of today is far superior to that of yesteryear

Will get 5qt of 10w30 tomorrow then. Brand will be whatever is on sale. Changed the oil prior to the first run. I have only a few hours on the current oil but those where the only hours run in the last 7+ years. Just figuring oil is cheep and engine damage is not.

Great plan! I have put an additional 6300 miles on my ‘37 since we bought it using the house brand regular oil from Fram and Fleet.
