I bought a load of parts all supposed to fit 1928 Chevrolet, but need help identifying rear end and steeringbox.

Rear end has casting 352297, and from what I can find it should be 1929 only, is this correct?
Is it then the last for 4 cylinder, or the first for 6 cylinder?

Steering box has casting 552036, the closest I can find is 552034, and even though it`s a lower number, it`s for 1929-30 steering box.
Is this a 1928 Chevrolet steering box, or is it for some other car make?

All of the parts you show pictured are for the 4 cylinder cars. '28 was the last year for that style of steering lock, and that type of brake return bolt on the differential. That style of mechanical spark advance and carb throttle were last used in 1928.

Those sheet metal shields on the rear end were added to possibly keep something out of the brake bands. On a restored car driven on todays roads they are probably more problematic than helpful.

Thanks Art, so those strange cut up backing plates, are "custom made" and added by previous owner?

I got a picture from an owner of a nice original running 1928, and it has a steering box with exact same number, so that part should now be confirmed.

Yes, maybe a repurposed coffee can? Hard to say the reason they were put on. I have not seen anything like it.
