I have an extra Delco starter 714L and a 1937 216 ci engine without a starter. The starter is not compatible with the 37. I found a starter end housing for a 37 starter on ebay. Can I swap the end housing onto the 714L so that it will fit on the 37 motor? If not, what starter part number is used on a 1937?

I believe the 37 starter is a 739A. I do have a used one that is untested. If interested send me a PM with your phone number.

The starter end housing might bolt to your other starter. The length of the new and old end housings will have to be the same and the tooth count/outside diameter on the starter drive will need to be compatible with the flywheel ring gear.
I have a nice, working '37 Starter, if it turns out you need one.
