Good afternoon everyone, I have fender skirts for my ‘54 Bel Air that were mounted incorrectly. The hardware is on the fenders but the skirts are missing the release mechanism and the brackets on the opposite end. Are these parts available to buy or am I better off just getting new skirts?

Thank You

I would be surprised if you can find new skirts. I suggest your better approach is to try and reconstruct the original attachment mechanism.

You will probably need to find someone who has a pair of these fender skirts. Hopefully they will let you photograph and measure the parts you need to locate or fabricate. You also might post in the Parts Wanted forum.

Thanks for doing the search Keith. I never expected there to be that many alternatives.

A lot of vendors sell 53-54 skirts. I've not seen any of the repops in person so I don't know how well they mimic the OEM mounting. When I was spending a lot of time on ebay I'd see skirts for 53-54 listed pretty regularly.

Thank You, My skirts are in good shape they just have no hardware. I have seen new repros with original style brackets and release mechanism for $140 to $250. I have also seen a lot of the female brackets that fasten to the fenders. I think your right about fabricating them myself. Thank You very much and Thanks to the rest of you, I’ll keep at it.

I have 1950 skirts that are not very good so could take the hardware off. PM me if interested.

I hope you get the hardware you need. The opening in the rear fenders of all Chevrolets from 1949 to 54 sure need skirts. That unfilled gap in the fender is right ugly. Is too.

Good afternoon Charlie, I’ve been out of range so just saw your reply. You are right, nothing looks worse than a homely car. Look at the difference between a 150 and a Bel Air, like night and day. I work away on a ship so I’m looking forward to getting home and putting the old cars on the road for the summer.
