The Dual Trumpet horns have nothing to do with the horn button.

1939 was the first year to have Town and Country horns. The porduction single horn for city and the dual trumpet horns for the country and a dash control switch to select which horn to use,,,,,in other words actually had three horns.

Could you post a photo? I don't understand what you mean by T&C button. It operated off of the regular horn button. There was a switch on top of the dash that controlled which horn(s) would blow when the horn button was pressed. Rather than drill a hole in my dash I put a three position toggle switch under the dash lip.

Tiny when I get it I will send you a picture of it. The guy said that it came whit his town and country horns but he was using them on his hotrod so he didn't need the button. I think he said that it fits under the lip of the dash on the side of the steering column

What ever it is it would be incorrect for a 1938 as a 1938 did not have the town and coutry horn accessory.

I GIVE UP

I thought you were building a car to be perfect for judging. The horn button that clamps to the steering column is a cheap aftermaret fix for owners that did not want to fix their horn that kept blowing by its self years ago.

Gene the button I am buying doesn't attach to the steering column. And in the Genuine Chevrolet Accessories for the 1938 Chevrolet they are listed for $9.50

I see the "matched horn" accessory (dual horns) listed for $9,50 in my 1938 accessory book OR THE Deluxe steering wheel (banjo wheel) for $9.90..

The matched horns have nothing to do with the horn button as the are under the hood and use the regular steering wheel and horn button.

The Deluxe steering wheel has a very special horn button.

The town and country horn story.

First They were never called town and country horns. When first introduced in 1939 Chevrolet called the set-up "Double-Duo" and consisted of the usual under hood pair of accessory trumpet horns plus a dash switch labled CITY - COUNTRY with a llittle flipper knob thar matched the wiper control knob in color and shape with a little tri-angle plate under the knob with City - Country marking for selection.. The city horn was the original horn mounted on the inake manifold and the country horns were the dual accessory horns.
The single city horn for "a courtesy" warning the the dual horns for "the open road".
Prior to this the single manifold mounted was discarded when the dual horns were installed,

For 1940,1941 and 1942 The set-up was different as these models came with dual horns of the smaller sea-shell type. In the city horn position one of the dual horns was shut off when "city" was selected.

While a cut-out switch could be installed for models prior to 1939 and the single horn be retained IT WILL NOT BE CORRECT FOR JUDGING,

Okay Gene I admit I was wrong calling them Town and Country horns. The accessory book calls them "Matched Horns" like you said. So for judging the single horn should be omitted and the matched horns hooked up to the "De Luxe Steering Wheel" am I right? As you know I am building this car for judging. I have been told conflicting information on several things so I tend to be confused. I have never been to a car show let alone had one judged, so I really appreciate your guidance,. Thank you!

We're still confused about the "horn button" thing. Are you not planning to use the stock horn button? The accessory horns used the stock button.

The steering wheel and horn button have nothing to do with the dual horns.
The dual horns were a fairly popular dealer instaled accessory.
The deluxe steering wheel was not a common dealer installed accessory.
They had nothing yo do with each other.

When the dealer recieved the car from the factory it had no accessories. No heater, no radio, no acessories.
The dealer then installed what ever accessories the owner was willing to pay for and in 1938 that was not very much. All northern states cars usually got a heater and about 25% got a radio or dual horns. I would guess about 2% or less got the deluxe steering wheel.

Since this is no longer about looking for a horn button I'm going to move it to the technical forum.

Yes Tiny I am going to use the stock horn button for the dual horns and leave off the single horn. I am thankful to you and Gene for all your help on this subject. Gene that is very interesting about the dealer installed accessories being added after the car was delivered to the dealership.

My 38 came from the dealer fairly well optioned for the day. It had both wipers, both sun visors, bumper guards, the rear gravel guard, accessory horns and the engine heat gauge. I added a heater/defroster, clock, fender park lights, fog lights and radio. I used to shake my head thinking about how people could think it's normal to buy a car without a heater. I don't remember who it was but someone reminded me that 1938 wasn't that far removed from the time when just having an enclosed vehicle to stay out of the weather and cold wind was luxury.
