I have a coolant leakage from the water pump on my 1939. I have decided to make a full overhaul, because I already have a NORS restoration kit.
I thought the fan blade was bolted to the pulley with the four small screws only, but it seems that it is shrinked to the axle in addition. How do I remove the fan blade from the axle without damaging or bending anything?

It may be rusted in place. I've not removed the fan from a 39 but it should be the same as my 38 which is remove the four bolts and lift it out. I'm not aware of it being a press fit. If I'm wrong someone will clarify.

You are correct that the fan blade assembly only bolts to the face of the pulley.

I expect that you are dealing with 2 situations. One is that the hole in the fan blade assembly is a very snug fit on the nose of the pump shaft. The other is that the blade assembly and pulley have “bonded” due to corrosion.

You are correct to be careful as you separate the 2 parts. I would start by spraying the assembly with penetrating oil and let it soak overnight. The lightly start tapping a very fine chisel in the space between the pulley and backside of the fan. Keep working around the assembly. Eventually it should separate.

Thank you guys. Fan blade removed by careful tapping and jerking. I think too much paint and a small amount of rust was the only problem.
Problem solved.
