Hi,

I'm helping my elderly friend sell his 1980 Silverado 1500. Can anyone tell me how to go about determining price? Kelley's Blue Book doesn't go that far back and NADA doesn't offer this truck.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

NADA shows values for 1980 pickups. I'm not trying to be a smart alec but prices are so variable that asking someone who's never seen the vehicle what it's worth is folly. It depends on location, condition, how bad the seller wants to sell and how bad the buyer wants to buy. You might try watching ebay to see what similar trucks sell for.

NADA doesn't have an option for a 1980 Silverado. Just to be clear, I wasn't asking what it's worth, only for resources to find out for myself. I appreciate the suggestion to check ebay, but there was nothing that came close to the year and model. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

In 1980 the Silverado was a trim package, not a model. There were 4 levels of trim available in a C/K series pickup.

Those trucks have gained popularity in recent times and values have increased. If you use Facebook you can check out the group square body nation.

With a few pictures, mileage, equipment details, and condition info you may get some estimates of value there or here.

Good luck

Try an antique vehicle insurer such as https://www.hagerty.com

1953 Chevy 1/2 ton Panel Delivery

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hubcap than ride in a Ferd.

Just as Tiny seemed to do, I, too, misinterpreted your request owing, in part, to the heading of the post i.e. "Need Pricing Help." Such wording may be open to interpretation. Obviously.

Anyway, I have a friend who gets a publication that list old car and truck prices. It is a periocical that, I think, is published monthly. (Not sure about that.) Accordingly, I think Chipmunk's advice would be a helpful source to determine the value of your friends truck.

My friend is out of town right now bound for Iowa to pickup a 51 Ford Convertible. (I know. It's has something to do with him having owned one in his earlier years.) He used his guide to help make an offer that led to negotiations over the asking price until there was a meeting of minds. When he gets back I will ask him his source for the publication and post it here. dance

Best,

Charlie computer

BTW: Owing to the shortage of chips for cars and trucks right now, I would think the truck would fetch more right now than otherwise be the case.
