I'm rebuilding a 1946 216 engine for my 46 Chev truck. Have the engine almost completely a part, but having a hard time removing the oil pump. Trying to figure out how it attaches to the block, looks like two bolts through the block into the oil pump. But the bolts have round heads and I can't figure out how to remove them.
Must be something I'm missing.
I'm new to VCCA, this is my first post, I appreciate any help on this.

There is a large set screw with lock nut insde the block. It faces the crankshaft and goes into the atachnemt that is held to the block with the round head rivets. Loosen and back out the screw. not ncessary to remove completely.
While glad to give inforamation I would advide you to purchase a shop manual to inform you all the oddities of a 1946 engine.

Thanks for the info. I thought the oil pump housing can be removed from the block, but it looks like it is riveted on.
No sure what the large set screw does, because the oil pump shaft looks like it can't go anywhere.
I do have a reprint of 42-46 Shop Manual, but nothing about oil pump rivieted to the block or the large set screw.
Sounds like I need to find a better manual or book about 216 engine rebuild.
Thanks again for your help!

The large set screw goes into a notch in the oil pump housing,
DO NOT fool around with the rivets as their opening for the oilpump housing is precision machiened after iit is riveted to the block.

If you go to the engine section page in your shop manual you will find a cut away view of the engine taken from the front. Note the distributor gear is visable and right below is the top of the oil pump and the set screw can be seen.
