On three of my Cars as long as I start them every couple of days they fire right off. On my 33 I can start it in the morning and if I try to start it later in the day I have to prime it. I can crank and crank it and it won't start. As soon as I put a little gas in the Carb. it starts right up and runs fine. Could the Float level be to low? Are there any rubber lines in the fuel line, I don't think so? Can't seem to figure it out. What else could it be?

Have you tried pulling the choke all the way out for the later in the day start?

The acelerator pump should be squirting in some gas.

If the starterator is still hoked up you can not pump the gas pedal.Try pulling the throttle in and out twice before starting to squirt some gas in.
Also one of the accelerator passage check valves could be leaking down. There is an incoming valve and an out going. They hold the gas in the passage.

I have tried pulling the Choke all the way out. I'll try with the Throttle tomorrow.

So I pumped the Accel. before trying to start this morning. I seen a little gas go in but not much, not enough to start although it did fire. If you don't think the level of gas in the bowl is low how do I check the Accel. valves?

I’m not familiar with the details for the carburetor on your car.

In general you have to take the top off of the carburetor to adjust the float level. That process should be in your shop manual.

I know how to adjust the Float Level but I'm not sure that's the problem. I guess I'll take off the top and see if there's any gas in the Bowl.

From descriptions it sounds more as if the fuel drains out of the acelerator circuit due to falty check valves.

There are 2 ways to determine if a fuel pump is bad. One is to use a fuel pressure gauge to check the output pressure. Then turn the engine over with an outlet hose directed into a container. You can see if there if fuel coming from the pump.

The other is to replace it and see if the engines runs better.

Can I check the pressure at the Carb. and do I need a rubber hose clamped on to the line?

I do not have a gauge to test the Fuel Pump pressure but I took the line off today and cranked the Engine and it's pumping gas. I did some work on the Carb. I'll see if it starts later today. The Bowl on the Carb. had gas in it.

I've set the Spark Plug gap at 45 per suggestion of VCCA member. Did not correct the problem. Starts back up the same day but when it sits for a day it will not start until you spray Starting Fluid into Cab. It is getting gas as the Bowl is full. I still can't figure it out. I know it has to be something simple.

When it is in the NO START mode do this with the engine not running.
remove the air cleaner and look into the carburetor troat using a flash light. When you work the throtle lever by hand you should see gas squrting in,

I was having a similar problem with my '48. I replaced the fuel pump and wow what a difference. It can set for weeks and it starts right up with out priming it. I think it was allowing the gas to drain back to the tank.
