Hello steve29, Well, I'm not sure about the 1929 Chevrolet factory color styling applications. But, maybe of interest, my 1931 Coach started out as a Serge blue and black vehicle. Along the way, it was repainted to a forest green and black. Still has the Cream Medium wire wheels. Well, the dashboard remained original. If I recall correctly, I believe that across the top of the dashboard has the Serge blue and the center panel is also Serge blue. The rest of the dashboard is black. If you are not familiar with Serge blue, in the dim light, it appears black. You need a flashlight to see the difference.
It's been a while since I looked at mine. And it's a Canadian car, but it IS an unrestored original.
If I remember right. the oval area immediately around the gauges is nickel. The rest of the dash, except for the inset area that spans the width of the car and has the 4 plated screws in it, is the main body color. The inset area with the four screws is the body belt line color.
The center instrument panel insert was originally finished with a wrinkle finish. The color is not available so what I did was paint it with a black wrinkle then when cured sprayed on a color matching an original insert I have. Been a while but I remember using a shade of pewter spray paint. Silver is way too bright.
Yup, yours is like mine BearsFan and is what I was referring to in my previous post. I think it's a nickel finish. I thought mine was originally nickel like the door handles and switches. What are your thoughts on what the original finish is/was? Was it just paint?
BearsFan315 has posted the correct instrument cluster plate for 1929 cars. It looked like wrinkled silver. Not quite a mat finish, but not quite shiny. Like cabboy said, not available, so he did the work around to get a nice looking finished product.
