I have an opportunity from an old friend who is selling his fathers cars a 1927 Buick Standard 6 Model 20 and a 1927 Chevy AA Capitol to me. The father had the titles but the friend does not have them. Bonded titles are easy to get with bills of sale and certified letters in AZ so titles are not a problem. They have been in a pole barn for 40 years. The Buick has damage under the drivers door and would need to be repaired. These are AZ cars with little rust. I have purchased cars I thought were a good deal only to have the parts cost eat me up. For the most part the cars seem to be mostly there. Missing door handles, inside and out, wood will need to be replaced top and bottom. They could be rodded out, restored or rat rodded. I have a spare Stude 289, 3 speed manual trans and Commander rear end. At $200 per car is this worth it? The parts may be worth more but I hate to do that to the cars. Thoughts?

I agree with your caution about next steps for these cars. My assessment is that even if they were free you will have a lot of time and efforts just getting them relocated. I assume you have a place where you can store and rebuild or dismantle them.

There are definitely some very usable steel body parts there. The condition of the drivetrain and chassis will be a big variable. As you know the limitation with those parts is finding a buyer and shipping costs. Plus think about the amount of work you have to spend getting the parts off the car and ready to ship.

My observation is that unless you are established in the vintage vehicle salvage business it is a risky undertaking.

I pick them up next Thursday. I will get a better idea of condition then. I am retired and do have time. I am not into making show cars anymore. The 51 Studebaker I am working on now is just a driver. I did think of just leaving the outside alone. Get them running and driving them that way. They are true survivors. Luckily Arizona is more kind to cars.

Since both are GM products are there any parts that are interchangeable?

Nice Stude. I had a 1952 Champion 4 door in high school in 1957. Wasn't as cool as the bullet nose, but didn't know it at the time.

Actually, GM did not exist then. They were all separate companies. Parts are not usually interchangeable. However, depending on condition, you have a lot of sellable parts there. So, for $200 you got a good deal.

GM did exist in 1927.
