I have my heater apart including the motor and squirrel cage fan. The fan and mounting plate were both surface rusted so I glass beaded them to clean them up. The plate I will paint but not sure what to do to keep the fan from re-rusting., So far I have acid etched it but wondering if I should apply a thin coat of paint or leave as is.

Correction. I wiped the motor to clean it for painting and the residue is GREEN. It appears that the motor/blower assy was mounted and all painted together as even the screws were painted the same color. There is no evidence that it was repainted-no primer under the paint and I removed all from the motor with brake clean. I sprayed it on and the paint just melted-not sure but I am guessing it was lacquer. It IS now black and I just found some hammer tone gray for the housing. Might try posting a photo when done.

I have a NEW 1951-52 heater in the box here and the duct work is dark gray (metallic but not hammertone) and the motor and flange it is mounted to a dull black. The heater in my all original 1950 is the same but duct color is more of a green gray. Harrison did not use a primer under the color coat.
Various screws were not painted.

I painted the motor semi-gloss black and the mounting flange what is supposed to be hammer tone but to me it looks more like metallic and is dark gray. If your 50 is the green/gray and my car is an early (Jan) build I am thinking that possibly they made a change later in the year.

Ther was no early color change but we installed some left over 1950 heaters in 1951 cars and used the 1950 control levers and control was mounted to the left of the steering column on the lower lip of the dash.
