Ordered a replicas turn signal for the 41 cabriolet from one of our well known vendors. (The original one I bought years ago at $1.3K has problems with the internal contacts. )
My installers say they must have sent me the wrong *12 volt one instead of the 6 volt one I ordered or it is just a bad part. This part is what directs the juice to the taillights.
Anyway had to send the whole kit and kabootal back. As soon as they get it they're to send me a replacement. This is annoying. Is too!
I'll keep you posted.
Best,
Charlie
BTW: Has anyone else had problems installing one of these replicas?
I do not know of an electrical switch that is voltage sensitive, all I have seen work just as well with 1 volt or 1000volts but the amps will have a major affect. Tony
I'm having some knowledgable friends help me with installing the switch. There are too many fig newtons involved for me to have a clue.
I'll let everyone know if I ever get one working and what the consensus was regarding the fault with the first one (from vendor) was, if any/
Best,
Charlie
This has been an expensive and annoying mess. Has too!
BTW: I understand that Ian King, who was big in the Chevrolet club down there, passed away recently. He came to my home back in the seventies (I think it was) and bought some parts from me to ship back to . He struck me and my family as being very nice and likable guy.
a. 03/08/2021 Bought the turn signal item #985720A16. (Price of item plus tax, insurance and with two-day shipping was a total of $576.09 of which shipping was $67.85.) b. 03/08/2021 Item shipped same day as ordered. c. 03/10/2021 Received item. d. 03/16/2021 Item returned to sender/vendor. e. 03/19/2021 Item arrived back at sender/vendor. f. 03/23/2021 Had not heard from vendor via any means. Called vendor. Acknowledged receipt of returned item. Was told the replacement would go out the same day (03/23/2021). and that I would be notified of tracking number. (Reason given as to why replacement item was not shipped either on 03/19/2021 or at least on 03/22/2021 was that two others vendor employees were involved.) g. 03/2420/21 Having heard nothing from vendor, I sent an email to them with request for update of replacement turn signal unit. No response to Email as of this writing. h. 03/25/2021 Called vendor again after no contact with shipping number or whatever. Was told by employee that he was not in the warehouse where item was kept.
As of this writing and post, I have heard absolutely nothing else back from vendor. on anything as to whether item is being shipped and/or the tracking number.
Opinions:
a. Vendor employees' are not performing professional, journeyman-level work and are not conscientiously engaged in duties of their position and/or full scope thereof. b. Turn signal item had a bad part/fault that had a direct impact on the performance of the tail lights. Parking lights blinked as they were supposed to. Tail lights, however, did not. Tail lights worked fine but not with turn signal. (My two buddies who installed the unit are competent. And highly so.) Other than the tail light problem the item was OK. Had no viable option but to return item for a replacement. c. Vendor employees' do not seem to dedicated to taking care of business, being courteous or (vendors) customers. Statement: In the past I have bought many items from this vendor who I have known back as far as the early days of the Carlisle Swap meet (1970s). I hope my continued business with this vendor is not in jeopardy, but my confidence and patience is wearing rather thin. Is too!
Best,
Charlie
BTW: More on this later and I hope it will be good news.
Dick, Yes. $576.09. Represents cost of turn signal, taxes, insurance, and two day shipping plus the cost of shipping the entire defective unit back for a replacement whichI have not, as yet, received.
As of this writing, I have still heard nothing for several workdays now.
Unbelievable. I've never before experienced such a "run around" mess.
I had a similar experience with them. In April of 2020 I ordered a whale tail exhaust tip. It showed up as the wrong side and even then a poor example (no clamp, nor was it really machined for one). There was no replacement available. It sat on the floor in my office and I called back every 6 weeks (nothing proactive from them). Finally in December, I gave up and asked for a refund. I think your situation is worse, because we should be well used to working in this pandemic.
As of this past Friday, the vendor says that my turn signal (re-pop) is on back order. I was told that they didn't have a clue as to when the order will be filled. (They still have my money.) In the meantime, I got the original one working just fine and will merely install the re-pop, if I ever get it, on the coupe. I do need a knob for the original one. See my post in "Wanted" forum.
This is a related question out of curiosity. For the original factory switch, the 1941 accessory literature alludes to using the front fender lights as signals. Was the parking lamp function eliminated or the socket changed to accept a two filament type bulb?
I think I'll call them again. This is way beyond annoying.
If I knew how to get in touch with Ron Wade. I wood. I doubt he knows how this matter is going. It is not going good and I've lost all but just a little faith in his company.
